Managing Partner
Samuel C. Smith
Mr. Smith has owned and operated numerous businesses with an emphasis on corporate finance, growth and innovation. Mr. Smith has a career history as a Venture Capitalist, raising private and public equity, managing buying and selling groups, and identifying niche opportunities in a variety of businesses and industries. He has extensive experience in origination, structuring and oversight for seed capital funding and structured finance.
He has built and maintained infrastructure through the startup phase with numerous private and public companies. A veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Smith graduated from East Texas A&M University with a double major Political Science and Economics. He also attended the University of Tulsa College of Law including additional coursework through the Harvard Business School.

Paul O. Williams
Paul O. Williams serves as Managing Partner and brings extensive leadership and business experience to his role. He currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bison Equities, Inc. in Dallas and has served on the boards of several other companies, including five publicly traded companies. Williams previously served five years on the Board of Directors of the Texas Economic Development Council and 12 years on the Board of Directors of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, including eight years on its Executive Committee. He is also a recipient of the CFO of the Year award for North Texas from the Dallas Business Journal.
Williams graduated from Austin College in Sherman with a double major in Economics and Business Administration and later graduated from the Institute of Organization Management in Washington, D.C. His extensive experience in corporate leadership, economic development, and organizational management reflects a longstanding commitment to business excellence and community involvement.

The Managing Partners oversee the firm’s investment operations, portfolio strategy, and capital allocation across all investment opportunities. Working closely with executive leadership and portfolio companies, this role ensures that every transaction aligns with VBX Funds’ disciplined investment philosophy and long-term objectives.
Responsibilities include evaluating acquisition opportunities, managing strategic partnerships, supporting due diligence, and overseeing the successful execution of the Venture Banking strategy. Through active collaboration and operational leadership, the Managing Partner helps position portfolio companies for accelerated growth and enhanced public market performance.

The Investment Committee is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and approving every investment opportunity pursued by VBX Funds. Each decision is guided by comprehensive financial analysis, market research, asset valuation, and long-term growth potential.
The committee focuses on maintaining disciplined capital allocation while ensuring that every investment supports the firm’s commitment to capital preservation, transparency, and sustainable value creation.
